Franck Robery is expected to complete a transfer to newly promoted Serie A club Salernitana on Monday. According to several reports coming out of Italy, the player has agreed to a single year contract with the club worth €1.5 million per season.
If Salernitana manage to evade the drop by the end of the campaign, Ribery will have the option to extend his stay for a second year. The French winger most recently featured for Serie A club Fiorentina before his contract of two years expired, and he decided to move on, aged 38.
From the time he left Fiorentina to now, he was allowed to train with former club Bayern Munich. The Bavarians were also linked with a surprise return for the Bayern legend, but it ultimately did not materialise for the 38-year-old. He is now set to take up a very new challenge, although in the same country.
Ribery was pursued by several other clubs this summer, with fellow Serie A side Hellas Verona also making an offer for him that he refused. Turkish side Karagmuruk also contacted the player’s entourage for a switch, but he insisted on staying in Italy for the remainder of his career.
The winger has shown that he is still capable of creating big moments during his time at Fiorentina, and with Salernitana, he could be the experienced offensive player needed to survive relegation this term.
