Serie A 2021/22: AC Milan and Inter are ready for their last attempt to win the title

Italian Serie A 2021/22 is set to enter the thrilling final Gameweek where two Milan clubs, AC Milan and Inter Milan will fight for the title in two different venues at the same time.

The Gameweek 38 of the Serie A 2021/22 will run between 20th May and 22nd May 2022. However, the title decider matches will start at the same time (at 18:00 CEST on 22nd May 2022), when Inter will host Sampdoria and AC Milan will face the hosts Sassuolo.

Currently, the 18-time Serie A winners AC Milan are leading the points table of the ongoing Italian first division season with 83 points in 37 games (25 wins, 8 draws and 4 losses).

Meanwhile, the 19-time Serie A champions Inter, who are also defending this title, have earned 81 points in 37 matches (24 wins, 9 draws and 4 losses) and currently battling to retain the title from the second position in the point table.

While Juventus have recorded 36 Serie A titles, Inter and AC Milan are the second and third most successful teams respectively in this competition history. According to the latest situation, the Black and Blues have the chance to become the second team to win 20 Serie A titles. Meanwhile, the Red and Blacks, who last time won the Italian first division title in the 2010/11 season, are very close to becoming the joint-second most successful club in the competition history.

All the possible situations in the title-decider

Scenario 1

If AC Milan manage to beat the hosts Sassuolo in the forthcoming game, they will comfortably finish on top of the points table in this first division season without looking forward to the other results. So, there will be no matter with the result of Inter vs Sampdoria match.

Scenario 2

If the I Rossoneri only record an away draw and their arch-rivals I Nerazzurri clinch a victory in the other match, then both teams will have 84 points each in 38 matches. Though the Black and Blues (49) have a better goal difference than the Red and Blacks (35), the title will be decided through the head-to-head performances in this competition.

In their two Serie A meetings this season, Milan had a 1-1 home draw, but they later beat the hosts’ Inter by a 2-1 margin. So, AC Milan will still win the trophy and end their more than a decade wait to win the first division title.

Scenario 3

On the other hand, if AC Milan fail to gain one point due to a losing result in the upcoming away match, then their title fate will be dependent on the other game.

In that case, the defending champions Inter will snatch the trophy only with a winning result.

Scenario 3 (Part 2)

But if the I Nerazzurri fail to claim a victory in their upcoming home game (with a draw or a losing result), then Milan will celebrate with the title.

Who are the favourites to win Serie A 2021/22: AC Milan or Inter?

Without any doubt, the Red and Blacks are favourite to win the Serie A 2021/22 title as their result is the first and most priority to decide the winners. Only their defeat can change the fate of the title but that too can happen only with the victory result of their arch-rivals.

However, Milan can’t sit very comfortably before their last game of this season due to their most recent results against Sassuolo. Sassuolo won both their last two games against Milan, who hosted both those matches. However, the hosts Sassuolo haven’t beat the Red and Blacks since the 2016/17 season as they have suffered five consecutive home defeats.

On the other hand, in the recent three meetings between Inter and Sampdoria, there were three different results. While Sampdoria won their home match in early 2021, the Black and Blues won the return leg at home in May 2021. In this Serie A season, they had a 2-2 draw result. But, since the 2017/18 season, I NerazzurriI have won all their four home encounters against Sampdoria.

Milan are currently unbeaten in 15 Serie A games. Meanwhile, I Nerazzurri are currently running with five-match unbeaten streak at home in Serie A, including three winning streak.

So, the Serie A 2021/22 is ready to end thrillingly.
