Sergio Romero linked with a return to Argentina: Boca Juniors interested

Once hailed as the most reliable number two in the Premier League, Sergio Romero has fallen down the pecking order to be Manchester United’s number three with the emergence of Dean Henderson as a strong candidate for David De Gea’s number 1 spot.

As acknowledged by Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer himself, the Argentine will be leaving Old Trafford after six years there, at the end of the ongoing campaign. His contract with the club will also expire at that point, and he will be able to negotiate with other clubs to potentially join them as a free agent.

Boca Juniors are the ones that are reportedly interested in bringing Romero back to Argentina at the end of the season. The club from La Boca also managed to sign Marcos Rojo from Manchester United earlier this season and will be hoping to persuade the United goalkeeper to come back home too.

Romero has been capped 96 times by the Argentinian national team and is 34 years old, which is not too much for a goalkeeper and having completed and trained at the highest level for almost a decade with Sampdoria before Manchester United, he will surely be a valuable asset thanks to his experience.

The goalkeeper made a name for himself competing in the Dutch Eredivisie, playing for AZ Alkmaar and has also featured for Monaco. He came through the ranks at the Racing Club academy in Argentina and could well be on the verge to play against them next season.
