Verstappen was heading with a 3-second advantage and behind him was Sergio Perez with a 2 second average over Lewis Hamilton, who had by then started losing ground.
Although the Red Bull team’s work in the pit stop was quick and efficient, which enabled Sergio Perez to maintain the 2nd position behind Verstappen after the pit stop.
In the final stages of the race Lewis Hamilton managed to bring down the margin to just 2.3 seconds but then frustratingly said over the radio “Can’t get any closer”, after which the Mercedes team’s racecar’s brakes started steaming and Lewis Hamilton went off track.
