Sergio Perez wins Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix

Sergio Perez has won the Azerbaijan Grand Prix 2021 Formula season at Bake city circuit. While Sebastian Vettel came 2nd and Pierre Gasly grabbed the third place

Before the beginning of the race, Max Verstappen was tipped to be leading, given his recent performance in Monaco.

Within the first 3 laps, Lewis Hamilton had taken the lead, but he was not satisfied with the rear tires and was losing pace, so he decided to take a pit stop at the 13th lap, which cost him dearly.

It resulted in the Englishman losing 2 seconds of race time, and he never really recovered from there. During all this, Max Verstappen, who was running second, gained the first position by the 18th lap while Perez overtakes Leclere in the 8th lap.

Verstappen was heading with a 3-second advantage and behind him was Sergio Perez with a 2 second average over Lewis Hamilton, who had by then started losing ground.

Although the Red Bull team’s work in the pit stop was quick and efficient, which enabled Sergio Perez to maintain the 2nd position behind Verstappen after the pit stop.

In the final stages of the race Lewis Hamilton managed to bring down the margin to just 2.3 seconds but then frustratingly said over the radio “Can’t get any closer”, after which the Mercedes team’s racecar’s brakes started steaming and Lewis Hamilton went off track.

During the 44th lap, Max Verstappen covered the fastest lap in the 2021 Grand Prix, but in a surprising turn of events, Verstappen unfortunately crashed and was out of the race, and a race flag was raised, resulting in the race coming to a pause to clear the debris.

After the race resumed Sergio Perez successfully won the Azerbaijan Grand Prix 2021.
