East Bengal are in talks with Sergio Lobera to sign on as their new manager. Negotiations with the Spaniard are in advanced stages, but he is yet to sign a contract with the club.
Odisha FC are also in talks with Lobera to recruit him as their new head coach. But, there is no agreement with either team as things stand. He is currently in charge of Sichuan Jiuniu in China’s One Division League, and has managed FC Goa and Mumbai City FC in the past, between 2017 and 2020. During his only season in charge of Mumbai, he won the domestic double with the club.
Sergio Lobera in talks with East Bengal and Odisha FC
With FC Goa, Lobera won the League Winner’s Shield and the Super Cup, which proves that he has a wealth of experience in getting silverware.
Odisha FC and East Bengal both had rather disappointing campaigns this past season. And there is optimism on both sides that the arrival of Sergio Lobera would improve their fortunes, given his track record.
Josep Gombau was relieved of his duties as Odisha FC manager after being eliminated by ATK Mohun Bagan in the knockout stages, while earning a sixth placed finish in the league. East Bengal, on the other hand, wallowed in 9th place with only six wins.
It remains to be seen whether the Spaniard will choose to return to India, and even if he does – which project he will choose to take on.
