Odisha FC have reached an agreement for Sergio Lobera to become their new head coach from the coming season. The Spaniard was reportedly in talks with East Bengal as well, but nothing was advanced between them in spite of rumours.
He has now decided to take up a new challenge with the Juggernauts after leaving Sichuan Jiuniu in the Chinese Second Division. The management parted ways with him only days before the start of their season, and he is now set to return to the ISL.
Sergio Lobera to become new Odisha FC manager
Lobera has a very impressive track record in the ISL. He started off by helping FC Goa reach the finals in 2018/19, before helping them lift the League Winners Shield the next year. He then moved to Mumbai City FC and became the first ever manager to secure a domestic double.
Only a year later, he moved to China and helped Sichuan Jiuniu finish seventh by winning 18 out of their 34 games. Given his past performance in the ISL, it is a very exciting time for Odisha FC fans. They could be set for a very impressive campaign under the leadership of Sergio Lobera, who has proven himself in the league.
The Juggernauts also have the chance to end the season with silverware when they face Bengaluru FC in the finals of the Hero Super Cup on 25 April.
