Sergio Busquets has set two new records in El Clasico with his latest appearance in the fixture. The Barcelona midfielder captained his side to a 1-0 win at the Santiago Bernabeu, as they picked up the advantage heading into the second leg of their 2023 Copa del Rey semi final.
While he didn’t score, he made his 46th El Clasico appearance, surpassing Sergio Ramos and Lionel Messi to become the player with the most appearances in the fixture.
Sergio Busquets sets two new El Clasico records
Not only is he the player with the most appearances, but he is also the one with the most wins in the fixture. Barcelona’s win at the Bernabeu means Sergio Busquets now has 22 wins against Los Blancos, surpassing the previous record of 21 held by Real Madrid legend Paco Gento.
He has lost 16 times to Real, while drawing eight times. And so far, he has never found the back of the net against their rivals.
With two more meetings set up between the two teams until the end of the season, Busquets has the opportunity to extend his record even further. He is expected to have 48 Clasico appearances by the end, with a potential 24 wins if they can continue their dominant form over Los Blancos.
The veteran’s future remains uncertain, however, since his deal expires in the summer and he hasn’t agreed to a renewal yet.
