Barcelona have held initial talks with potential transfer target Sergio Aguero, as reported by Sky Sports. The striker is out of a contract at the end of the season and has announced that he will be leaving Manchester City at the end of the season.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the player is willing to compromise on his salary to make a switch to Barcelona and play with Leo Messi, his good friend and compatriot. No agreement has been reached between the two parties, as of yet, though. Barcelona will only decide on the transfer at the end of the season.

Sergio Aguero would be prepared to reduce his salary while playing at Barcelona… and of course with Leo Messi. There’s still no agreement completed or signed – the club will decide about Aguero, Depay and other targets only at the end of the season. 🔵🔴 #FCB @MatteMoretto https://t.co/UEV4XJmkoH

Memphis Depay is also an option for the Blaugrana. The Dutch international was on the verge of joining Barcelona last summer, but the move ultimately did not materialise because of Barcelona’s financial difficulty.

Depay is out of a contract at the end of the season as well and is keen on reuniting with former national team coach Ronald Koeman at Camp Nou.

Barcelona are expected to be in the market for an orthodox number 9 this summer. They did not replace Luis Suarez, who left for Atletico Madrid in 2020 and has been their top scorer this season.

Leo Messi and Antoine Griezmann have formed a partnership up front, but the presence of a target man will help the club finish a lot of the chances they create during games.

Aguero, as well as Depay, are both options for Barcelona and still have the last part of the season to play with Manchester City and Lyon respectively. Whether or not Barcelona could end up capturing both free agents is something that remains to be seen.
