Manchester City are going to offer Sergio Aguero a role as their club ambassador after his early retirement in 2021. The player was diagnosed with cardiac arrhythmia and was advised by doctors to stop playing. And in a tearful ceremony at Barcelona, he announced his retirement from football.
City want to keep him in the world of football, with a role as the club’s ambassador alongside Mike Summerbee and fellow title winners Joleon Lescott and Micah Richards on the table.
Club legend Sergio Aguero to be given club ambassador role
Aguero is Manchester City’s highest ever goalscorer, with 260 goals to his name. He lifted five Premier League titles with them during his time in England, and is considered one of the best strikers in the Premier League.
One of the best moments in the history of the league stars Sergio Aguero, netting a goal in the final minutes against QPR in 11/12 to win City the title. The Argentinian is also set to receive a statue outside the Etihad Stadium, alongside former teammates Vincent Kompany and David Silva.
Aguero joined Barcelona as a free agent, in the summer of 2021. He initially struggled with injuries, and would make his debut months later. The final goal of the player’s La Liga career came against Real Madrid in his only El Clasico appearance.
After hanging up his boots, Sergio Aguero is currently in South America with his family. He is yet to make a final decision about the role offered to him.
