Serge Gnabry has accepted Bayern Munich’s offer for a contract renewal, amidst interest from Chelsea. The winger was a serious transfer target for the Blues after they agreed the signing of Raheem Sterling as their first new attacker of the summer.
With only one year remaining on his previous deal, the Premier League club were eager to bring him back to London. But, Bayern were able to reach an agreement with the Germany international quickly to secure his services for the coming years.
Serge Gnabry renews contract with Bayern Munich
The winger’s new contract is a four-year extension, and runs until June 2026. He has accepted the proposal from the German giants and will be signing the contract officially next week.
Bayern will now be heading into the new season with Sadio Mane, Kingsley Coman, Leroy Sane and Serge Gnabry as options on the wings. As a result, they have arguably the most page and best depth of any European club in the wide positions.
However, the Bavarians might have to lose Robert Lewandowski this summer. The Poland international has returned to training with Bayern, but has reiterated that he wants to move to Barcelona. The Spanish club have opened talks to sign the striker, and are yet to reach an agreement with them. However, they are optimistic that they will be able to sign him before the end of the transfer window.
