Nottingham Forest have announced their 22nd signing of the summer, with Serge Aurier finally set to complete his move to the City Ground. The right-back will be joining on a free transfer after featuring for Villarreal last season.
“Nottingham Forest is delighted to confirm the signing of Ivory Coast captain Serge Aurier, subject to visa approval,” the official website of the club read.
Serge Aurier to return to the Premier League
The Ivorian previously featured for Tottenham in the Premier League. He signed for them from PSG in 2017, and went on to make 110 appearances for them. He also went on to reach the finals of the Champions League as part of their squad, losing out on the title to Liverpool.
Aurier played for Villarreal last season, but his contract was terminated due to his fitness and injury issues. With Unai Emery’s side, he was able to reach the semi-finals of the Champions League before bowing out to Liverpool.
With a lot of experience in the English top flight, Aurier will be able to provide some solidity to the backline. He has agreed a one year deal with them, and the details of his contract are yet to emerge. With the right-back, Forest have extended their record for the most number of signings in a single transfer window.
