Manchester City will be travelling to Leicester this Saturday in the Premier League and will be without Ederson and Zack Steffen.
The Brazilian goalkeeper will not be eligible to play for the club after Manchester City refused to let him go for international duty. Second choice keeper Zack Steffen, on the other hand, contracted Covid during his time with the USMNT and will have to quarantine as a result. This leaves Pep Guardiola with no other choice but to play third choice keeper Scott Carson between the sticks.
The 36-year-old has only made one Premier League appearance for City despite being there for three years now. His first and only performance came for City this year after they were confirmed as the league winners against Newcastle. The experienced keeper was beaten thrice on the day but stopped a penalty as City won 4-3.
The game against Newcastle was his first Premier League game in a decade after spending loan spells in the Championship and at Turkey. The trip to Leicester coming up on Saturday will be key despite it being relatively early in the campaign.
Pep Guardiola will also be without Gabriel Jesus since he was also requested by the Brazil FA, but was not released by the Premier League club.
Guardiola has spoken positively about Carson in the past and has talked about how he is a valuable presence in the dressing room. And in the rare opportunity that City will have to play their third-choice keeper, he will surely be expected to deliver.
