SC East Bengal remembering club legend Krishanu Dey on his death anniversary

SC East Bengal is paying tribute to their club legend, Krishanu Dey, on his death anniversary today.

Krishanu Dey is one of the best footballers India has ever produced. Unfortunately, he was passed away on 20th March 2003 at the age of 41.

Krishanu loved to play as an attacking midfielder. His skill, passing, and all the other abilities were unmatched in his time. He was born in Kolkata on 14th February 1962.

He started his career for Police A.C. in 1979 under Achyut Banerjee in Calcutta Football League. Later he joined Calcutta Port Trust. His performance caught the eyes of some of the big clubs of Kolkata. In 1982 he joined Mohun Bagan AC. After two seasons, he moved to their rival club East Bengal. He played 7 seasons with East Bengal and produced some of his most memorable performances at that time.

Krishanu has also represented his country 34 times on the international stage. He has scored 10 times for his country, including a hat-trick against in Merdeka Tournament against Thailand in Malaysia, 1986. He was the fifth Indian and second Bengali after Subhas Bhoumik to score a hat-trick for India on the International stage.

Krishanu got popular in his time in East Bengal. He was named ‘Indian Maradona’ at that time. He is considered one of the legends of Indian football. From ‘Para Football’ [Neighborhood Football] to the International stage, he has a journey to remember.
