After a long wait, SC East Bengal has finally started their ISL journey from this season. But the Kolkata giant has experienced a tough situation in the league till now.
After the first 7 games in the league, SC East Bengal is yet to win a game in ISL. They are now 10th in the table with 3 points in the first 7 games.
Yesterday they drew against Chennaiyin FC. German midfielder Matti Steinmann scored a brace to confirm a point for the Red and Gold. In the 13th minute of the game, Lallianzuala Chhangte gave the South Indian side the desired lead from a swift counter-attack. SC East Bengal equalized in the 59th minute of the game.
But Chennaiyin FC again took the lead in the 64th minute of the game. Rahim Ali scored the second for them. But the lead was short-lived as SC East Bengal replied quickly within 4 minutes as Steinmann scored the second. The match ended in a 2-2 draw.
After the match, SC East Bengal manager Robbie Fowler said that his team deserves some praise for their fight. He said, “I think people need to understand where we are as a club. Considering the type of players we have, regardless of people like this or not but we were built for I-League. So give us some credit for showing the fight.”
Fowler suggests all the fans and critics to look on the brighter sides forgetting the negative ones. “We lost one game but we haven’t lost in two so that’s positive why don’t we talk about that why don’t we talk about Tondoba, the youngest player playing in the ISL. No one wants to mention that but wants to talk about all the negatives surrounding us.”- he added.
