‘[My name change] is because in the national team, the first call-up they put “Savinho” on the shirt,’ he told the club’s official website.
‘People in Girona knew me more as “Savinho”, it was just written “Savio” on the shirt, you know?
‘So I told [City] to put “Savinho” on the shirt and I hope it brings me luck too, this name “Savinho”.’
The 20-year-old recently wore the number 20 shirt for Brazil when he was called up to the national team. And the name on the back of his shirt was “Savinho” there as well. As a result, it appears that the youngster is doing away with his former nickname, and will now start his City career in a new light.
