Saudi Arabia now has some of the biggest names in world football, after Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Neymar decided to move to the Gulf State. Players of all ages have made the switch to the Middle East, in keeping with what Ronaldo had once said about the project in the country.

However, not all players were persuaded by the lucrative financial deals that the PIF funded clubs proposed. Several players decided to stay where they are and remain loyal to their clubs, to fight for silverware or otherwise.

Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski received multiple approaches from the Middle East to make the move. But, he decided to stay at Barcelona and compete in the Champions League and La Liga this season. The Polish striker is still at the top of his game, and is a very important part of Xavi’s squad.

Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne also received multiple offers. But, he promptly rejected them in favour of staying at the club and building a greater legacy on top of City’s treble win.

Real Madrid defender David Alaba also received an approach from Saudi Arabia but stayed at the club since he had no desire to move.

Liverpool legend Mohamed Salah was linked with Al Ittihad, who even made a £150 million offer to sign the Egyptian. But, he ended up staying at the club and remains committed to the Kop for the 23/24 season.

Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi were also linked with a transfer, but neither went through. Mbappe stays at PSG while Messi has joined Inter Miami in the MLS.
