Dani Alves, who was passed by Paris SG and had his best hours in the FC Barcelona jersey, was scheduled to present at the Paulista club’s training on Friday after participating in Brazil’s World-2022 qualification.

But, according to Belmonte, his representatives have informed club management that the full-back would not return to training unless the team pays his arrears. As per the Brazilian news, Sao Paulo owes him 11 million reais (almost 1.8 million euros).

When the Brazilian veteran opted to compete in the Tokyo Olympics with the Olympic selection (July 23 – August 8) and win his 43rd title, relations between the seven-time Brazilian champion and Dani Alves frayed.

The two-time Champions League winner with Barça (2011 and 2015), who has yet to comment on his departure, had signed a contract with São Paulo in 2019 that would expire in 2022. He was victorious there. In 2021, he will win the Paulista championship, ending an eight-year title drought.

His Departure from the Club

Via Club’s social media, Football Director Carlos Belmonte said that “We made the decision and communicated to coach Hernan Crespo that Daniel Alves will no longer be available to play for the São Paulo team.”

The announcement came after what appeared to be a wage dispute between the players and the organization. Belmonte went on to say that the 38-year-old did not show up for training on Friday following his participation in the World Cup qualifiers with Brazil earlier this week. Alves played 95 matches for São Paulo, scoring 9 goals and adding 14 assists.
