Santi Cazorla recently completed a free transfer back to Real Oviedo in the second division of Spanish football from Qatari club Al Sadd. But, the former Arsenal player was a subject of interest for FC Goa in the ISL. There were talks to bring him over to India to bolster their squad, but as revealed by Marcus Mergulhao recently, they ultimately fell through.
The player’s entourage demanded a salary worth $750,000, which wasn’t realistic for the Gaurs to pay. As a result, they decided to invest in other players and have made a bright start to the season this far.
Santi Cazorla failed transfer to FC Goa revealed
The 38-year-old has mostly been a substitute for his new side, making eight appearances and playing only 652 minutes across all competitions. As a result, there are doubts as to how much he could have contributed to FC Goa even if he had signed for them.
Similarly, Mohun Bagan SG held talks with Andres Iniesta’s entourage to try and work out a potential transfer. But, the former Barcelona captain asked for a massive wage worth $8 million USD. As per Mergulhao, the club only responded with a “smiley” and moved on as it was far beyond their budget.
Iniesta recently left Japanese side Vissel Kobe and now plays for Emirates in the UAE.
