Samuel Umtiti will be leaving Barcelona this season to play in Italy with Lecce. The two clubs have reached total agreement over the loan deal for the 22/23 season. And only the final details need to be sorted out for the transfer to be confirmed.
The Frenchman has had to deal with a lot of difficulties at Camp Nou. His recurring knee injury has massively hindered his progress and kept him out of action. Moreover, poor form and limited appearances have made his career come to a halt of sorts.
Lecce to sign Samuel Umtiti on loan
An interesting point to note is that Barcelona will be covering the player’s entire salary. However, they might receive bonuses based on the number of appearances he makes for the Serie A club.
Barcelona have signed a number of new centre-backs over the last few transfer windows. As a result, it is very unlikely that the Frenchman would have made any appearances for Xavi even if he was fit and available.
Samuel Umtiti’s personal athletic trainer will travel to Italy along with his client to work together with him. One of the other main reasons behind the move to Italy is because the defender eventually wants to become a coach and wants to learn about Italian football over the course of the next few years.
