Valencia have announced the signing of Samu Castillejo on a three-year contract until 2025. The winger has joined Los Che from AC Milan, after spending four seasons with them.
He made 113 appearances for the Serie A club, scoring 10 goals and providing 15 assists. However, he found game time hard to come by under Stefano Pioli. And now, he has completed a move back to La Liga, having formerly played for Villarreal. He is the first new signing for Gennaro Gattuso, who became the new manager of the club at the end of the previous season.
Samu Castillejo signs for Valencia
The Spaniard has completed his move back to his home country, and has been presented as a new Valencia player as well. The transfer fee is a minimal amount with performance related bonuses included in the deal between the two clubs.
AC Milan have saved €7.1 million from the wages and transfer fee of Samu Castillejo now that he has left the club. This extra money can be used to fund new contracts for Rafael Leao, who has been targeted by Chelsea, as well as Fikayo Tomori.
Castillejo has struggled to perform on the pitch over the last few seasons, and a return back to La Liga could be helpful for his morale. He has revealed that he was close to joining Valencia in January, but now, with one year remaining on his deal, Milan didn’t object to the deal to let him go.
