Samsung announces UFS 4.0 with 2x the performance in comparison to UFS 3.1

Samsung has unveiled the latest version, 4.0 of the Universal Flash Storage solution. The company is a reputed player in terms of smartphones and semiconductors. It is also one of the premier manufacturers of memory chips. Samsung’s UFS 3.1 is already the best out there, however, the company has now improved upon it by making it faster and more efficient.

The new UFS 4.0 has been approved by the JDEC or Joint Electron Device Engineering Council’s board of directors. Samsung claims that it will implement the latest JEDEC standard specification in its new flash storage.

Samsung UFS 4.0 specifications:

The new UFS storage is expected to arrive with new UFS storage and is believed to come with improved performance and will be more power-efficient on upcoming devices. The UFS 4.0 is set to offer a speed of 23.2 GBPS per lane, this is nearly twice that of the UFS 3.1.

This bandwidth is suitable for 5G devices that need huge amounts of data processing as per Samsung. UFS 4.0 is said to play an integral role in future automotive applications, augmented reality (AR), and virtual reality (VR).

Power efficiency has now been improved in the UFS 4.0. The new memory is set to deliver a sequential read speed of 6.0 MBPS per mA, this is an improvement of 46% over the previous UFS 3.1 version of UFS.

Your smartphones if equipped with UFS 4.0 will have improved battery life and improved read and write speeds. The UFS 4.0 will also be smaller in size compared to the UFS 3.1. It measures 11mm x 13mm x 1mm with more effective space utilization and design convenience.

Coming to the storage capacity, it arrives in a variety of capacities ranging all the way up to 1 TB. Mass production of the new memory version will begin in Q3 of 2022.
