Samsung Electronics has become the talk of the industry after announcing a major leadership shuffle and reorganization of its business divisions to maintain technological dominance. On December 7, the South Korean electronics behemoth announced that its consumer electronics (CE) and IT & mobile (IM) business divisions would be merged into a new SET Division, which would be led by Jong-hee Han, the Visual Display business’s head.

For the 15th year in a row, Han has contributed significantly to the company’s success in global TV sales. He will be responsible for creating synergies between the SET Division’s various businesses and leading the team toward innovation in his new role. In the meantime, Kyehyun Kyung, who was previously the CEO of Samsung Electro-Mechanics, has been promoted to lead the existing device solutions (DS) division.

Since 2017, Samsung has been divided into three divisions, each with its leader. The most recent internal reorganization aims to streamline the company’s structure and integrate its smartphone and consumer electronics divisions.

Samsung will be able to develop more effective strategies for its Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI) businesses as a result of the merger of the CE and IM divisions. Despite the introduction of IoT platform SmartThings and AI voice assistant Bixby, Samsung has struggled to create a digital environment as comprehensive as Apple’s.

In other news, The main supplier for Oppo’s upcoming first foldable device is Samsung Display. Samsung’s Ultra-Thin Glass (UTG) composite material is used to make the device’s main 7.1-inch folding OLED display. The panel is also said to be LTPO and has a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz.
