Samsung reportedly experiencing yield issues with its Exynos 2200 SoC

According to recent sources, the South Korean tech giant is experiencing yield issues with its Exynos 2200, which will be the first chip from the company that will feature an AMD GPU. Reports suggest that this delay continues then we can expect e the Galaxy s22 will be launched with a Qualcomm SoC.

We have already heard reports that Samsung’s Exynos 2200 powered by the AMD GPU is actually a powerful SoC and shows lots of promise compared to the chips predecessors. It even looks like we can expect Samsung to make a comeback in the market with powerful performance. The chip will be made on Samsung’s 4nm LPE (Low Power Early) process, which is equivalent to the company’s 5nm LPP (Low Power Plus) node.

According to reports, Samsung has not offered any reason as to why it had chosen different manufacturing processes for the Exynos 2200 and Snapdragon 898 however there are speculations that it’s due to yield issues.

This has forced the South Korean tech giant to choose different node technologies for its partner Qualcomm and for itself. Let’s assume that the Galaxy S22 series will launch with the Exynos chipset and the product will be limited. Then this will enrage the potential customers once again since they will not able to purchase Samsung’s flagship in the chipset variant of their choosing.

Coming to previous leaks related to the chipset, the upcoming custom silicon from Samsung will be featuring a 6-core AMD mRDNA2 GPU. There are also leaks that suggest that the chipsets GPU beats the A14 Bionic in a graphics test, which is nothing short of impressive.

In fact, the Snapdragon 898 in high-performance mode is also no match for the new custom silicon from Samsung. All this suggests that the company adopting AMD was a wise decision that will change the position of the Exynos line up in the market.

However, but if the recent rumours related to Samsung experiencing the power yields ends up being true then we might not see an Exynos 2200-powered version of the Galaxy S22 in the market.
