Recently, Samsung has announced its new mid-range 5G SoC, the Exynos 880 is aimed towards providing 5G experience at affordable prices. The recently launched Vivo Y70S is the first smartphone to come equipped with this new SoC.
It is an octa-core SoC with manufactured on the 8nm FinFET process, featuring 2 x Cortex-A77 cores clocked at 2.0 GHz and 6 x Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 1.8 GHz. The SoC supports LPDDR4x RAM along with UFS 2.1 / eMMC 5.1 storage.
The Exynos 880 is equipped with ARM Mali-G76 MP5 GPU, that supports up to Full HD+ (2520×1080) displays. Samsungs believes that the Exynos 880 is capable of supporting advanced graphics APIs, and incorporating diverse technologies for powerful and efficient graphics processing.Â
The company claims that the enhanced CPU performance reduces loading time, the powerful GPU renders 3D graphics in-game with a high framerate to provide outstanding visuals. It features a dedicated NPU (Neural Processing Unit) and DSP (Digital Signal Processor) for on-device AI capabilities.Â
On the camera front, the Exynos 880’s ISP supports up to five individual sensors and is able to process three sensors concurrently. It supports a single-camera max resolution of 64MP and a dual-camera rating of 20MP for each camera. For video capturing, the Exynos 880’s multi-format codec supports 4K 30fps video recording and playback, with HEVC, H.264 and VP9.
Coming to the connectivity, the SoC supports Bluetooth 5.0, WiFi 5 (802.11ac), and FM radio. The 5G modem of this SoC is capable of supporting sub-6GHz 5G with a maximum downlink speed of 2.55Gbps and uplink speed of 1.28Gbps.
Due to the E-UTRA-NR Dual Connectivity that combines 5G and LTE networks, the download speed boosts up to 3.55Gbps and upload speed of 1.38Gbps. The chipset also features a 4-mode GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) receiver which supports GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, and Galileo.
