Samsung has launched its two new “Odyssey” gaming monitors, the Odyssey OLED G8 and OLED G6 models which bring forward intelligent aspects and various functions.
The New Samsung Odyssey Gaming Monitors
The new Odyssey monitors are a major turning point in the gaming monitor industry for Samsung. What was already an impressive gaming monitor with the previous release, the Odyssey OLED G9 Neo, Samsung has seemingly kept up the high standard with the new releases. The Odyssey OLED G8 and G6 are Samsung’s latest high-end displays that boast AI features.
The Odyssey 8K G9 has an aspect ratio of 32:9 and the equivalent of 9.7K resolution, it has a 240 Hz refresh rate and a rapid response time of 1ms (GtG). The OLED G6 has a smaller 27-inch panel, however, the refresh rate of 360 Hz is considerably higher. The G6 is aimed at the hardcore gaming engine enthusiast, but the G8 should be some way to offer a more well-rounded alternative for customers.
The inclusion of an NQ8 AI Gen3 processor in the Odyssey OLED G8 allowed the use of AI features. For those wondering, this isn’t the first time Samsung has added some AI chops into the mix for one of its OLED screens, with the feature borrowed from its Neo QLED 8K TV lineup. When using native Smart TV applications such as the Gaming Hub* and utilizing the AI-powered upscaling capabilities of the OLED G8, users can upscale content to 4K resolution.
Certainly, excellent panel quality and a high resolution to complement it are a common complaint levied against gaming monitors, but this innovative integration of AI upscaling tech should ensure that the Spectrum is as ‘future-proof’ as it can be at launch. On top of the panel compatibility, the two TSSCs are also blessed with Apple 6.1 Pro APs and an AI processor (27 and 25 TOPS) to boot, and both of them are safeguarded from burn-in courtesy of OLED Safeguard+ technology from Samsung that rounds off the specs with improved heat dissipation to elongate the OLED lifespan.
As for pricing, the Odyssey OLED G8 costs $1,299, with the OLED G6 set at $899. As high as those prices are for these displays, they sound like bargains for how much extra you get from them out of the box.
