## A New Three-Way Foldable Split

Samsung introduced the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8, and Galaxy Z Flip8 at its Unpacked event on July 22, 2026, according to [CNBC’s launch coverage](https://www.cnbc.com/2026/07/22/samsung-galaxy-z-fold8-ultra-z-fold8-z-flip8-launch.html). The move splits Samsung’s traditional Fold line into two tiers for the first time, with the standard Z Fold8 introducing a wider, 4:3 screen ratio designed for a better content-viewing experience, while the Ultra variant sits above it as the premium flagship option.

Samsung also confirmed the Galaxy Watch 9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 alongside the foldables, rounding out a broad hardware refresh timed just ahead of Apple’s rumored entry into the foldable market. The Z Fold8 is also being called Samsung’s lightest Fold yet, according to [91mobiles’ launch report](https://www.91mobiles.com/samsung-galaxy-z-fold-8-price-in-india).

## Why the Price Bump Matters

Both the Z Fold8 Ultra and Z Flip8 come in $100 pricier than their predecessors globally, a jump Samsung has attributed to rising memory chip costs, per [CNBC’s report](https://www.cnbc.com/2026/07/22/samsung-galaxy-z-fold8-ultra-z-fold8-z-flip8-launch.html). Industry analysts note the increase is smaller than expected, suggesting Samsung is absorbing part of the cost rather than passing it all onto buyers — a sign of how competitive the premium foldable segment has become.
