Samsung Galaxy S23 Series models have slow wireless charging speeds than their predecessor

The wireless charging speed of Samsung Galaxy S23 series phones is even slower than that of last year’s S22 series, which disappoints many users. According to Phonearena’s tests, all three phones in the S23 series charge wirelessly much slower than the S22 series. The flagship S23 Ultra, with a 5,000 mAh battery and 15W wireless charging support, is the worst performer.

Even so, when tested with the official charger, the Samsung S23 Ultra’s wireless charging speed is 33% slower than the S22 Ultra’s. The S22 Ultra takes 1 hour and 58 minutes to fully charge with the wireless charger, while the S23 Ultra takes 2 hours and 37 minutes, which is 39 minutes longer than the official 15W claim.

The other two S23 phones have increased battery capacity as well, but wireless charging time has only increased by 15 minutes, not as much as the S23 Ultra. Some argue that fast charging reduces battery life, but there is plenty of market evidence that this fear is unfounded.

Apple iPhone 14 Pro models were also tested, and the results show that the 14 Pro Max wirelessly charges at roughly the same rate as the Samsung S23 Ultra.

Presumably, the S23 Ultra has some heat dissipation issues that are slowing down wireless charging speed. However, even 15W wireless charging cannot be considered “fast charging,” as the fastest wireless charging solution on the market can reach 50W, and Samsung, Apple, and Google are currently lagging far behind Chinese manufacturers’ advanced charging technology.

The Samsung Galaxy S23 series’ 15W wireless charging rate applies only to the company’s own charger, with a third-party charger speed limit of 10W, even if the charger supports 15W.
