When Samsung Free was added to devices running One UI 3.0, many users were baffled as to what it was and where it came from because it appeared out of nowhere. It is a content aggregator that compiles interactive games, news articles, podcasts, and live TV in one place. As implied by the name, all of the content on Samsung Free is unrestrictedly free. Swiping left on the Home screen will take you to Samsung Free. The function is still available, but it is now known as Samsung News.
Samsung Free will now be referred to as Samsung News.
The “Read” and “Listen” tabs are combined in the new experience. Additionally, it will put more emphasis on news content, making it simpler for users to locate and engage with news on their phones.
The “Watch” and “Play” tabs will no longer be present as part of this rebrand, which is yet another sign that Samsung wants to emphasise news with this update. The Samsung TV Plus and Game Launcher apps will still provide free TV and games.
Evidently, Samsung wants the function to be viewed as a rival to Google Discover. If this is how it plays out, it remains to be seen. When the Samsung Free app is updated after version 6.0.1, Samsung News will be accessible. From April 18th, Samsung will release this update one at a time.
In other news, sales of the S23 series have reportedly increased by 40% in India, the world’s second-largest smartphone market and second-most populous nation, compared to results reported in the same timeframe following the regional commercial debut of the S22 trio back in early 2022.
The increase was about 50% higher in Europe and the Middle East combined, and about 70% higher in “major Latin American countries such as Brazil and Mexico.” The latter area’s 1.7x improvement is particularly noteworthy, as it was reportedly completed in less time after being released a little later than last year.
