Samsung Electronics announced the launch of its new feature called the SmartThings Find. This service helps you quickly and easily locate Galaxy devices. The feature uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and ultra-wideband (UWB) technologies to help people find select Galaxy devices.

Jaeyeon Jung, Vice President and Head of SmartThings Team at Samsung Electronics, stated, “Utilizing the latest in BLE and UWB technology, SmartThings Find will make your life less stressful when it comes to searching for misplaced Galaxy devices. With the added advantage of using AR6 in conjunction with maps and sounds to guide you back to your devices, SmartThings Find is a simple and visual solution that will help you easily locate your favorite devices. It is just one example of the new meaningful mobile experiences that UWB technology will bring to people across the world.”

The SmartThings Find service allows users to locate their missing device even if it’s offline easily.  Once a device is offline for 30 minutes, it automatically produces a BLE signal received by other devices. Suppose the device is reported as lost via SmartThings Find.

In that case, any nearby Galaxy smartphone or tablet that has opted into helping find the user’s misplaced devices can alert the Samsung server about its location, and the server will notify the user of his/her device’s location. Samsung claims that the device location is encrypted, and except the user, no one else will access the device’s actual location.

“We are also excited to be working closely with leading companies in the item-finding space to both expand this experience and enable you to find more of the belongings you care about most. We look forward to sharing more information soon,” said Jaeyeon Jung.

The new software update for the SmartThings app will be released for Galaxy smartphones and tablets running Android 8 or later. The service will be available for users across the world.
