Chinese display giant looks to be out of race to produce OLED panels for iPhone 15 base models, Samsung Display takes its place
Earlier this year, there were reports that Samsung Display could lose Apple’s iPhone 15 display orders to BOE. However, recent reports suggest that BOE is facing manufacturing and quality issues with its OLEDs, specifically with notched panels suffering from light leakage.
As a result, Samsung Display will start manufacturing iPhone 15 panels earlier than expected. Apple had ordered BOE to manufacture OLED panels for the base iPhone 15 model, but the Chinese supplier couldn’t meet the standards and schedule.
Samsung Display was supposed to enter in June, but due to BOE’s failure, it will start manufacturing OLED panels for the basic iPhone 15 model in May. Despite BOE’s mishaps, it is reported that the company’s position in Apple’s supply chain remains secure, and it may supply OLED panels before the end of the year if the light leakage issue is resolved. Until then, Samsung and LG will take the majority of the iPhone 15 OLED orders.
