Samsung and Tesla partnering to make a 5nm Chip for self-driving vehicles

According to a recent report from Korea, Samsung and Tesla are joining hands to manufacture a new chip with a 5nm node for autonomous driving. The South Korean giant is always trying to grab the top position in the chipset market and they seem to be progressing towards their goal.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we all have seen that the ongoing expansion and increased adoption of electric vehicles and as well as the shortage of chipsets in the market. The South Korean giant didn’t want to lose this great opportunity to expand its semiconductor business into automobiles.

Regarding the recent status of this upcoming 5nm chipset is being reported to be in Research and Development (R&D) stage at the Samsung Foundry Division and it will be installed in Tesla‘s autonomous vehicles.

The upcoming chipset will have a 5nm Extreme ultraviolet (EUV) processor, there are two companies that make this type of processor and are Samsung and Tesla. Samsung is ready to producing Tesla’s current self-driving chips for hardware 3.0 computer, but according to the report, the chip currently being used manufactured using a bit older 14nm technology.

According to a recent report, the South Korean giant Samsung is recently recognized its organizational structure and also increase manpower in the Advanced Driving Assistance System (ADAS) which is directly focused on autonomous driving technology. If this new research of Samsung and Tesla will successful then it could be a big matter for TSMC.

Apart from the above information, the rest remains a mystery. It is expected that the company will disclose all the details regarding this topic soon.
