Samsung’s Exynos 2200, which features the Xclipse 920, the first AMD RDNA2 GPU, did not have the best launch because it disappointed in terms of performance and efficiency. However, the Korean giant has stated that it will continue to work with AMD, giving rise to speculation that a flagship Exynos SoC may receive upgraded Xclipse GPUs in the future.

Although there have been rumours in the past about Samsung’s involvement in the Exynos 2200 chipset development, the most recent announcement confirms that better mobile GPUs are on the way. Seogjun Lee, Executive Vice President of Application Processor Development at Samsung Electronics, says both companies intend to innovate in the area of mobile graphics despite the fact that they have not disclosed any crucial information.

Samsung was forced to use a modified version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for its Galaxy S23 series due to the poor performance of the Exynos 2200.

A modified version of the Tensor G3 that will be found in the upcoming Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro may replace the Exynos 2300, which is regrettably not anticipated to be found in the Galaxy S24. The only difference is that the Tensor G3 might finally start using an AMD GPU rather than an ARM one.

Samsung’s renewed partnership with AMD may also provide it with the chance to create a unique mobile GPU while utilising licenced U.S. company technology. Ray tracing was one area where the Exynos 2200’s Xclipse 920 stood out from the competition, outperforming the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in some tasks that taxed the GPU.
