When fans heard Nicolas Cage was returning as Spider-Man Noir on Prime Video, one question immediately spun up — is *Spider-Noir* a sequel to *Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse*? The short answer: **no, but the link is real.** Here’s everything broken down clearly.

## So, Is It Connected to *Into the Spider-Verse*?

The only connection between *Spider-Noir* and the *Spider-Verse* films is that Spider-Man Noir appears in both, and Nicolas Cage plays him. The versions of the character in each are variants from different universes. [SuperHeroHype](https://www.superherohype.com/news/654699-spider-noir-man-verse-connection-movies-universe)

Showrunner Oren Uziel put it plainly — speaking to *Empire Magazine*, he summed it up in just four words: **“Same character, different universe.”** He further clarified, “It’s a different flavor of that character, even though it’s still Nic’s voice,” and confirmed the show is not a continuation of *Into the Spider-Verse*.

## Who Is Ben Reilly — And Why Not Peter Parker?

In the comics, Spider-Man Noir is a version of Peter Parker. The 2026 Prime Video series replaces Peter with Ben Reilly — likely a move to further differentiate its live-action Spider-Men, given that Tom Holland plays Peter Parker in the MCU.

Producer Chris Miller told *Esquire*: “This character’s very different from the Peter Parker from the movies. He’s older and jaded, and not afraid to punch a guy in the face drunkenly.”

## What’s the Show Actually About?

Set in 1930s New York City, the story follows Ben Reilly — a grizzled private investigator who previously operated as the superhero known as The Spider, until his retirement due to a personal tragedy. He resumes his old career when a unique new case comes his way. [aol](https://www.aol.com/articles/spider-noir-ep-explains-1-124200664.html)

The series is available to stream in both **authentic black-and-white** and **true-hue full colour** — giving viewers two distinct ways to experience its film noir atmosphere.

## Nicolas Cage’s Unique Performance Approach

Cage drew inspiration from **Humphrey Bogart, Edward G. Robinson, and Bugs Bunny** for the role. That’s a combination only Cage could pull off. Showrunner Uziel recently screened all episodes for Cage, who enjoyed watching them — the actor was reportedly “speaking his own lines back with pleasure and glee,” which Uziel called one of the most rewarding experiences of his career.
