Chelsea are set to recruit yet another member of the Brighton staff, this time going for Sam Jewell. He will join as the Head of Recruitment for both Chelsea and Strasbourg in Ligue 1 as part of the BlueCo structure. Jewell has been placed on gardening leave and will soon make the move to London.

He becomes the eleventh player or member of staff to join Chelsea from Brighton, showing an over-reliance on the Seagulls due to their recent success. Fans have actively noticed this trend and are speaking out against it, but Chelsea have continued to recruit from the coast side.

The Blues have made several changes to their backroom staff following the arrival of Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali. And Jewell will be expected to lead the entire system which also consists of Paul Winstanley, Laurence Stewart and Joe Shields. With Jewell heading the team, it will be interesting to see whether they can add leadership to the young squad by reshuffling things or whether things stay the same.

Chelsea’s overspending in the transfer market over the past two years has been fairly documented. And with Sam Jewell leading the recruitment, it will be interesting to see whether they can find talent for the right price. Here are the players Jewell has scouted for Brighton:

  • Victor Gyokeres
  • Kaoru Mitoma
  • Moises Caicedo
  • Evan Ferguson
  • Alexis Max Allister
  • Pervis Estupinan

Moreover, their sporting model will also be fine-tuned, considering that their current project is rooted firmly in having a young squad that stays together for the long run. Jewell is expected to officially make the move in the coming weeks, once his notice period has ended with Brighton.
