Sadio Mane has been named the African Player of the Year for a second time in his career. The Senegal international led his country to a victorious  African Cup of Nations campaign, and won the double with Liverpool as well.

The last two editions of the award were cancelled due to the pandemic. Mane last won the trophy in 2019, and has now been named the top player of the continent once again.

“I am really honoured and highly delighted to receive this award again,” Sadio Mane said.

“Thanks to my coaches, my club and national team colleagues and those friends who stood by me during difficult times.”

After losing the Champions League final with Liverpool, and missing out on the Premier League title, the winger made a move to Bayern Munich. The transfer fee that the German side paid is around €32 million up-front, which could rise to €41 million with add-ons.

The winger also helped his country qualify for the 2022 World Cup, capping off a very successful spell with the international team. And, his success with Liverpool on top of that has made him the most deserving candidate of all.

The Senegalese took only five minutes to score on his debut with Bayern Munich. And now, he has a new challenge with the biggest club in Germany.
