Sadio Mane has been included in the Senegal squad that will be competing at the 2022 World Cup. His inclusion comes despite the injury he sustained in the 6-1 win against Werder Bremen.

The club confirmed the extent of his injury following scans, and said that they would be in contact with the Senegalese football board for the same. Initial reports from Germany and France said that the player will be ruled out for the upcoming tournament.

It remains unclear whether or not the forward will be available for the opening game against Netherlands on November 21. Rumours suggest that Mane will be available for the third or the fourth game of the group stage, and the team is willing to gamble on his fitness even though he isn’t fully ready.

Prior to the World Cup, an official statement should confirm how bad the injury that Sadio Mane sustained really is. Updates from both Senegal and Bayern Munich should provide further clarity in the coming days.

Senegal are among the favourites to qualify from their group which consists of the Dutch, alongside hosts Qatar and Ecuador.
