Cricket fans all over the world have a reason to rejoice as India’s cricketing legend, Sachin Tendulkar, is all set to have a life-size statue erected at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, where he played his final match for India. The statue will be unveiled on April 23, which is Tendulkar’s 50th birthday or during the 50-over World Cup later this year, according to cricket officials. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) president, Amol Kale, confirmed the announcement and said that it would be the first statue at the Wankhede Stadium, and they will decide where to place it.

Sachin Tendulkar’s Achievements in Cricket

Sachin Tendulkar, fondly known as the ‘Master Blaster,’ represented India in 200 Test matches, 463 ODIs, and one T20. He holds the record for the most runs (34,357) and hundreds (100) in international cricket. Tendulkar’s journey started in Mumbai, under the tutelage of his childhood coach, Ramakant Achrekar. He won the World Cup with India in 2011 at the Wankhede Stadium and played his landmark 200th Test against the West Indies in 2013 at the same ground.

Honouring Tendulkar’s Contribution to Cricket

The life-size statue of Sachin Tendulkar is a small token of appreciation from the MCA, honouring his contribution to cricket. Sachin Tendulkar is one of the game’s all-time greats, and his incredible career spanned 24 years. He broke a plethora of records during his illustrious career and is regarded as a cricketing icon.

Statues of Cricketers in India

There aren’t many life-size sculptures of cricket players in stadiums across the nation. The VDCA Stadium in Andhra Pradesh, the Holkar Stadium in Indore, and the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium have statues of former Indian cricketer C K Nayudu. Some players have wax sculptures and stands named after them in their respective state associations. Several former cricket greats are represented in Madame Tussauds in London. The late Shane Warne is memorialised in one of the most well-known cricket player sculptures at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

The life-size statue of Sachin Tendulkar is a tribute to the cricketing legend and an inspiration for future generations of cricket players. The statue at the Wankhede Stadium will remind cricket lovers of Tendulkar’s remarkable achievements and his contribution to Indian cricket. It will also serve as a fitting tribute to the man who brought joy and pride to millions of Indians through his cricketing prowess.
