Sabah FA host Slavia Praha at the Bank Respublika Arena in Baku on October 13, as the Azerbaijani debutants continue their fairytale first Champions League campaign against a European heavyweight already chasing points of their own.

Founded just nine years ago, Sabah’s rise has been remarkable. They stunned Israeli champions Hapoel Beer-Sheva in a dramatic extra-time playoff to reach the League Phase for the first time, joining Italy’s Como as the competition’s newest members. Under Lithuanian coach Valdas Dambrauskas, Sabah swept both the Azerbaijan Premier League and Azerbaijan Cup last season, and their draw has pitted them against giants like Arsenal, Barcelona, and Manchester United — making every fixture, including this one, a genuine test of how far they’ve come.

Slavia Praha arrive in Baku looking to bounce back after a slow start to their own European campaign. The Czech champions have real quality in their ranks and will be eager to pick up crucial points on the road against a side still finding its feet at this level.

### Key Storylines

Sabah’s biggest weapon going into this game is confidence — their qualifying run showed real character, with late goals and extra-time drama becoming something of a trademark. Serbian forward Simić, the top scorer in Champions League qualifying with six goals, will be central to any hopes of an upset. Joy-Lance Mickels, who bagged 19 league goals last season, adds further attacking depth.

Slavia, by contrast, bring far more continental experience and will look to control possession and impose their quality on a Sabah side still adjusting to this level of competition. For the Azerbaijani outfit, simply competing well and staying organized defensively will be the priority.

### Prediction

Slavia Praha’s superior squad depth and European know-how should make the difference, though Sabah’s home crowd and never-say-die spirit could make this closer than expected on paper.
