The BCCI is shocked after viewing the logos of SA20, which is South Africa’s T20 tournament since they are the lookalike of IPL logos. In no time, the IPL franchise owners and South Africa’s T20 league owners will get into trouble with BCCI. An official of the board stated that it was completely against the spirit of understanding with the teams.

The logos are identical to that of IPL’s which may have angered BCCI officials. However, with as mentioned in the contract, the cricket board cannot object or have its say to the IPL franchises in the foreign leagues.

BCCI from the very beginning wanted to avoid the new foreign T20 leagues cashing on IPL’s brand value. They can take legal action against the tournament on the clause of  DILUTION of IPL BRAND’. The official further confirmed that the board will have a discussion with the franchise owners about the duplication of logos.

Three IPL teams, Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Delhi Capitals – are part of the UAE league (ILT20). On the other hand, Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, SunRisers Hyderabad, Lucknow Super Giants, Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals have been included South Africa (SA20) tournament. The SA20 will be commencing on January 10. Viacom is the broadcast partner for the CSA T20 league. Viacom18 Sports acquired the broadcast rights of the SA20 league for the next ten years. The company will be paying $10 million per year for the T20 league.

“The IPL owners are involved. They have had a very successful product in IPL in the last 14-15 years. The teams are very experienced in what they want and how the event should be run. They are getting involved in different leagues around the world. It seems the way at least T20 cricket is going. South Africa is a great place to play cricket with a good time zone and good weather. It is going to be a successful product. Having the owners from India, it becomes very lucrative for the local players as well.” Miller added.

The IPL has changed the entire financial scenario for the Indian players and he hopes that this league has the same effect.
