Hollywood sci-fi films don’t always land big in India. But every once in a while, one comes along that Indian audiences genuinely embrace — and *Project Hail Mary* is doing exactly that. The film has grossed **₹28.75 crore in just 8 days** at the Indian box office — and the momentum is only building heading into the second weekend.

## Why This Performance Is Genuinely Impressive

The day-to-day drop is remarkably small for a Hollywood sci-fi release in India. In fact, the Day 8 collection of ₹2.75 crore actually shows a **5% spike** over the previous day — a sign that the film’s audience is growing, not shrinking. With no major competitor releasing this Good Friday weekend, a significant jump to close to ₹40 crore by Sunday is very much on the cards.

Based on the [novel of the same name by Andy Weir](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Hail_Mary), the film follows Ryland Grace — a science teacher who wakes up alone on a spaceship with no memory of how he got there. As he pieces together his mission to save Earth, he forms an unlikely bond with an alien named Rocky. It’s a story about science, survival, and friendship that manages to be both intellectually engaging and deeply emotional — which is likely exactly why it’s resonating so strongly with Indian audiences who appreciate smart storytelling.
