It is safe to say now that the Taiwanese chip giant is the world’s biggest smartphone SoC manufacturer after it beat Qualcomm. MediaTek is rapidly taking away the budget, mid-range and now even premium smartphone segment with its Dimensity chipsets.

However, much like Qualcomm, MediaTek also loves to bring in new chipsets or rather revamping its existing ones like they did with Dimensity 800 and launched the 800U variant. So, this is why eminent tipster Digital Chat Station has now hinted that MediaTek could do the same in 2021.

So, instead of launching a new Dimensity 900, it could launch a Dimesity 1100U chipset, which makes considering these 5G SoCs are already ruling the market.

This rumoured chipset could be MediaTek’s sub-flagship offering with 5G support and could be a cut-down version of the existing Dimensity 1200. Also, take this as a rumour because Digital Chat Station is yet to supply any solid evidence that this “D1100U” variant actually exists.

The tipster seems also positive that it will power to the ~1000 yuan (or US$155) segment suggesting the SoC could hit the Chinese market first. In the Indian market, the so-called Dimensity 1100U could power all the smartphones in the sub Rs. 20k price segment launching in this or next Quarter.
