Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman discussed his predictions for new Apple goods this year in the newest issue of his Power On newsletter today.
Apple is expected to release a third-generation iPhone SE with 5G and a faster chip, a new iPad Air, and at least one new Mac powered by Apple silicon this spring, according to Gurman, with an Apple Event scheduled for March or April.
Outwardly, the next iPhone SE is believed to look similar to the present model, with a 4.7-inch display and a Touch ID home button.
Apple is expected to release a fifth-generation iPad Air this spring with similar features to the sixth-generation iPad mini, including an A15 Bionic chip, 12-megapixel Ultra Wide front camera with Center Stage support, 5G for cellular models, and Quad-LED True Tone flash, according to Japanese blog Mac Otakara.
Gurman believes Apple will introduce a larger iMac powered by the M1 Pro and M1 Max CPUs this year, with iMac Pro branding and an appearance comparable to the 24-inch iMac released last year. This year, a high-end Mac mini configuration based on the M1 Pro and M1 Max CPUs is also expected.
Apple is planning a “major update” to the AirPods Pro later this year, according to Gurman, who previously said that the AirPods Pro would be released in the fourth quarter of 2022.
Apple has tried a more compact design for the second-generation AirPods Pro that would eliminate the stems that drop below the earbuds, according to Gurman and Bloomberg’s Debby Wu. If this is the final design, the new AirPods Pro would resemble Apple’s Beats Studio Buds, which were released last year.
Along with the Apple Watch, Gurman and Wu say that the upcoming AirPods Pro will include motion sensors for fitness tracking.
The next AirPods Pro, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, would include a “substantially enhanced” wireless chip compared to the existing AirPods Pro’s H1 chip. The processor is responsible for audio-related activities like active noise reduction, and advancements in this technology could lead to longer battery life and more listening time per charge. According to Kuo, the new AirPods Pro will also enable lossless audio from Apple Music.
According to Kuo, the new AirPods Pro charging case will be able to make a sound to help users locate it if they misplace it. Like the third-generation AirPods charging case, the forthcoming AirPods Pro is likely to have a water-resistant charging case.
