According to Videocardz, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 12 GB graphics card is real and will be released soon with upgraded specifications. The GA102 GPU is at the heart of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 12GB graphics card.
The GA102 is one of many Ampere GPUs that we’ve seen in the high-end gaming segment, and it’s currently NVIDIA’s fastest gaming GPU. The GPU has a total of 28 billion transistors and is based on Samsung’s 8nm custom process node designed specifically for NVIDIA. It has a surface area of 628mm2, making it the second-largest gaming GPU ever made, just behind the Turing TU102 GPU.
NVIDIA has enabled a total of 70 SM units in the GeForce RTX 3080 12 GB, resulting in a total of 8960 CUDA cores, a 3% increase over the normal RTX 3080. NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 3080 includes CUDA cores as well as next-generation RT (Ray-Tracing) cores, Tensor cores, and brand new SM or streaming multi-processor units. The TDP of the card is indicated to be 350W.
In terms of memory, the new GeForce RTX 3080 comes with 12 GB of memory, which is also next-generation GDDR6X. The RTX 3080 can achieve 19.0 Gbps GDDR6X memory rates thanks to Micron’s freshest and finest graphics memory chips. This, along with a 384-bit bus interface, results in a total bandwidth of 912 GB/s, a 20% improvement over the 10 GB variant.
According to a rumour from yesterday, this card and the GeForce RTX 3070, Ti 16 GB have been delayed by NVIDIA, with the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti being the only card to make it on time for launch on January 27th. In terms of gaming performance, the graphics card is expected to be 5% faster on average, but for miners, the card may hold a special place because the updated memory will help it push crypto performance by up to 20% over the 10 GB variant.
The card is said to produce 52 MH/s, compared to 43 MH/s for the RTX 3080 LHR variant. With that said, there are currently several LHR hacks and unlocks available on the market that can help you improve your performance even more.
This means that the RTX 3080 12 GB is more likely to end up in the hands of miners than gamers. The MSRP is expected to be around $999 in the United States, but we already know that the final price will be much higher than that. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 12 GB would also be able to take on Intel’s high-end ARC lineup, though it would only be as fast as the RTX 3070 Ti.
