Rumour: AMD’s RDNA 3 ‘NAVI 3X’ to be three times faster than Navi 21

According to the latest leaks and reports, it’s being suggested that AMD’s next-generation RDNA 3 ‘Navi 3X’ GPUs for Radeon RX Gaming graphics cards will be featuring a much bigger gen-over-gen performance increase. A famous AMD leaker, KittyYuko, has revealed that the flagship Navi 31 GPU will be one insanely powerful chip.

Much like the earlier reported Navi 33 GPU, AMD’s Navi 31 GPU will also be based on the RDNA 3 (GFX11) GPU IP. It will be replacing the current flagship Navi 21 GPU and will be twice as large since it will feature a dual-chipset design. The current Big Navi (21) GPU is certainly an insanely powerful chip but based on the rumours, the Big Navi (31) GPU will be an even bigger monster.

The leaker also stated that a 2.5x performance jump for the AMD RDNA 3 based Navi 31 GPU is too little and suggests that the next-generation flagship will be almost 3 times faster than the Navi 21 GPU. Reports also indicate that the Navi 33 mainstream chip will be replacing the RX 6800 and RX 6900, which is RDNA 2 Big Navi 21 GPU.

We, Will, be getting dual 80 Compute Unit dies, and each will feature 5120 stream processors for a total of 10,240 stream processors. According to sources, as reported earlier, the AMD RDNA 3 based Radeon RX GPU SKUs will be based on a brand new process node from TSMC, reportedly 5nm. The N5P (5nm) delivers a 15% speed improved or about 30% reduction in power consumption when compared against TSMC’s 7nm node.

AMD’s latest active bridge chipset solution for its next-generation GPUs will allow the company to interconnect the multiple dies featured on the Navi 3X (RDNA 3) GPUs. The AMD RDNA 3 ‘Navi 3’ GPU lineup of Radeon RX graphics cards will compete with NVIDIA’s Ada Lovelace GPUs. They are expected till the end of 2022 or early 2023 so let’s see what other details surface.
