Apple will allegedly provide the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max with a minimum storage of 256GB rather than the firm’s standard 128GB base offer for the iPhone Pro, a smaller model. The iPhone 15 Pro from Apple, which currently costs $999 and has a screen size of 6.1 inches, features inferior capacity, while 128GB of storage is available on the $1,199 iPhone 15 Pro Max, which has a 6.7-inch screen.
iPhone 16 Pro Series to Feature Bigger Base Storage
As The Mac Observer has reported, Apple will offer the iPhone 16 Pro with a starting capacity of 256GB, which is comparable to the minimal capacity of the iPhone 16 Pro Max in order to keep the product price at $999. Although the source of this purported “leak” lacks recent credibility in Apple-related rumors, the notion is not entirely implausible. Should Apple eliminate the 128GB base option for the iPhone 16 Pro, three storage tiers would be available across the lineup: 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB.
Apple’s iPhone X hit the market in 2018. It started with 64 GB of storage and stayed with the next-generation premium devices until the iPhone 12 Pro hit the market in 2020, where Apple made 128 GB the new minimum. In the following year, the lowest storage option for all the iPhone 13 models was 128 GB. If Apple makes the new minimum of 256 GB across its premium devices this year, this could come true for all models by 2025. Korean rumor also mentioned Apple increasing the maximum storage options for the iPhone 16 Pro models over their iPhone 15 Pro counterparts, doubling the available storage from 1 TB to 2TB.
This potential storage increase is attributed to Apple’s adoption of higher-density Quad-Level Cell (QLC) NAND flash for higher-capacity models, which allows for more storage in a smaller footprint and is less costly than the Triple-Level Cell (TLC) NAND currently used in iPhones.
Rumors also suggest that this year’s iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will feature larger display sizes, expanding to 6.27 inches and 6.86 inches, respectively. Compared to the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, equipped with 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch displays, respectively, these new sizes would represent the largest ever for the iPhone, potentially providing more space for internal components and parts.
