AC Milan have agreed the transfer of Ruben Loftus Cheek from Chelsea, with the two clubs mutually agreeing over the terms of the transfer. The Cobham academy graduate will make the move for €16 million upfront plus €4 million in add-ons.
At the San Siro, he will be reunited with former teammates Olivier Giroud and Fikayo Tomori, who also made the move from Chelsea. The midfielder said his goodbyes to Stamford Bridge during the last game of the season, and will now be moving on to a new challenge in Serie A.
Former Milan director Paolo Maldini led the pursuit of the England midfielder, and in spite of the change in hierarchy, the Rossoneri have decided to complete the move for him. A medical for the move will take place soon, and he will be officially announced as a new signing for the club in due course.
Ruben Loftus Cheek to sign for AC Milan
The sale of Sandro Tonali to Newcastle for €70 million has accelerated the signing of Ruben Loftus Cheek for the club. The Italian’s departure will be a huge blow, which will likely be softened by the arrival of the Englishman.
The player agreed to a long-term contract weeks ago, and has now earned a move away from Stamford Bridge to further his career. With the huge number of arrivals under Todd Boehly’s ownership this past season, playing time was not guaranteed for Loftus Cheek.
And after being in and out of the starting line-up for many seasons, he has now decided to move on in search of regular playing time.
Who are AC Milan going to sign next?
The Rossoneri have also been linked with AZ Alkmaar midfielder Tijjani Reijnders and are expected to sign him for €18 million. The player is open to the move and talks are ongoing for the club to bring in another midfielder to offset the departure of Tonali this summer.
