Ruben Amorim has revealed that he might not stay at Sporting CP next season, amidst rumours linking him with a move to the Premier League. The 39-year-old has been rumoured as one of the frontrunners for the Liverpool job now that Xabi Alonso has been ruled out.
The former Braga manager has been very impressive with Sporting, winning them their first league title in 19 years in 2021. The team also performed well in Europe, further raising his stock.
Ruben Amorim hints at Sporting CP exit this summer
🚨🇵🇹 Ruben Amorim: “I can NOT guarantee that I will stay at Sporting next season”.

“I can’t say that like Xabi Alonso did”.
“We have time to discuss my future, we will do that at the right time”.
“Now focus on winning titles and then we will see what happens”. pic.twitter.com/2PNfglaedF
“No, I can’t guarantee [I’ll stay],” said Amorim. “I gave my word and I can’t go back on it. If we don’t win titles, I’ll leave Sporting.
“It was clear from the start, it was the bet I passed on to the players. We have to win titles.”
Thankfully for the Sporting CP faithful, they are leading the race for the title. But, their lead is only as much as a point. As a result, it is still anybody’s guess as to who emerges with the trophy at the end of the season.
In either case, there is a £12.5 million release clause in the manager’s contract for this summer. That amount will drop to £8.5 million in 2025. But, Liverpool might just pounce on the opportunity now that they have the chance to start something new from scratch.
