Following back-to-back wins for KKR, the Eden Gardens crowd was all decked up on Thursday evening to support their home team in full mood. However, all their dreams were put to ashes by Yashasvi Jaiswal as he smashed an unbeaten 98 off 47 to help his team land a one-sided win.
RR derails KKR in a one-sided game, defeats the hosts by nine wickets
Winning the toss, visiting skipper Sanju Samson sent the Riders to bat first, who could only put up a 149-run total on the board for the loss of eight wickets. The solid batting order didn’t do much magic today except for a few glimpses from Venkatesh Iyer, who stroked a 42-ball 57.
Chahal was again stunning against RR as he picked up four crucial wickets restricting the batters from hitting big. Boult picked up two and it was one each for Sandeep Sharma, Ashwin and KM Asif.
A smooth chase for the Royals
Coming down to defend a 150-run total, KKR took the back seat from the beginning. The innings first over from Nitish Rana went for a whooping 26 runs thanks to Jaisawal’s stunners. It was a never looking back situation for the defending runners-up as they chased down the total in 13.1 overs with nine wickets in hand.
Sanju Samson was unbeaten for a well-struck 48 off 29. Jaiswal, the super cool young talent, smashed 98 of 47.
The win helped RR move up the scoreboard to position three and take a crucial step toward the playoffs.
The concluding two weeks of IPL 2023 are going to be exceptional, as the teams will deliver their best to secure a place in the playoffs.
