Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is gearing up to demonstrate their dedication to environmental conservation by playing the “Green Game” in this year’s IPL on Sunday at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Royal Challengers Bangalore to play Green Game on Sunday – Team to wear green jersey made from recycled waste
Since 2011, RCB has devoted one of their home games to promoting “Go Green” initiatives and raising awareness about the necessity for a cleaner and greener planet. RCB players will wear eco-friendly green jerseys made from recycled waste collected at the stadium.
The jerseys’ creation requires a substantial amount of recycled waste, with the season opener match alone generating 9047.6 kg waste and 19488 water bottles used. Waste segregation practices are implemented to collect and process recyclable waste to produce sustainable products such as shirts. In partnership with Good Era, RCB has established a Green Army sustainability team to maintain the stadium premises clean.
Rajesh Menon, VP & Head of Royal Challengers Bangalore, stated, “RCB is the world’s first carbon-neutral cricket team, and the foremost cricket franchise rallying behind a people-driven movement for a greener planet. ‘Go Green’ is not just an initiative for us, but an aspiring movement to seek behavioural changes, contributing to solving various challenges related to climate change.”
This year’s mission will involve RCB restoring two lakes in South Bengaluru, covering 44 acres, and implementing the Green School certification program in nearly 200 schools. RCB has created a digital green pledge forum on their official website to encourage fans worldwide to join the campaign for eco-friendly and sustainable living.
M Chinnaswamy Stadium has become a green stadium, with solar and wind power sources for conducting cricket matches. RCB aims to expand these comprehensive green initiatives and encourage sustainable living worldwide.
