Royal Challengers Bangalore ’s New Captain

Virat Kohli resigned as RCB captain prior to the beginning of the previous edition of the Indian Premier League. RCB, on the other hand, was unable to win the last IPL under Virat’s guidance. After that, it was almost clear that Royal Challengers Bangalore would name a new skipper for the IPL 2022 season.

The announcement came shortly after RCB appointed Faf du Plessis, a former South African captain, as their new captain for the upcoming IPL season in 2022. The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) unveiled their new jersey on Twitter, with Du Plessis and Kohli donning the new red and gold before the 33-year-old released a video with his thoughts on the kit.

Kohli said: “I couldn’t be happier to pass on the baton to a good friend, someone I’ve known over the years.”

About the New Jersey

Royal Challengers Bangalore unveiled their new jersey on Saturday, only hours after unveiling their new captain. The players will wear it in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. The launch took place in Bengaluru at an event named ‘RCB Unbox,’ and the first look of the outfit was released on the franchise’s social media accounts.

On Saturday evening, the team took to Twitter to share a brief video in which the squad’s new-look red and black shirt could be seen.

Who is Faf du Plessis?

Du Plessis, one of Chennai Super Kings’ most consistent players, was an easy choice after Virat Kohli opted to step down as the franchise’s captain following a decade of title drought. RCB bought him for Rs 7 crore and has him for the entire season. In a ceremony here, team chairman Prathmesh Mishra and director cricket operations Mike Hesson presented Du Plessis with the cap.

Du Plessis said: “Obviously coming in as an outsider, I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity. I have played a lot of IPL cricket. I understand the dynamics and it’s no small thing to trust an outsider who is an overseas player to do the job of the leader.”

Du Plessis, a 37-year-old four-time IPL champion, has played 100 games in all, amassing 2935 runs with a strike rate of 131 or higher. In CSK’s IPL-winning season last year, he scored 633 runs.
